Characteristics

Plants pyramidal in form, delicate and with a disc shaped holdfast, yellowish-brown in colour, reach a height of 30-40cm, axis glabrous and rounded, ultimate branchlets modified into vesicles and receptacles, leaves thin, transparent, 2-6 cm long and 0.5-1.5 cm broad, alternately arranged, being larger and broader in the lower portion becoming smaller and narrower towards the apex marginal leaves somewhat dentate, midrib more or less prominent, vesicles stalked and spherical, receptacles richly branched and spinose.
